I am a firm believer that change comes from the roots, and as a professional in the nonprofit sector, I never want to enact undesired change on a community. Organizations have too often taken advantage of underserved populations to further a belief that has nothing to do with the community it impacts. It is my responsibility as an individual with change-making power to prevent this harm from continuing. 

I often think about the nonprofit industrial complex. The nonprofit industrial complex is the system of existing nonprofits that fundraise for initiatives but do not give it their all when trying to achieve these goals. Instead, the organization perpetuates the very phenomenon or system they are trying to counter in order to continue making money. Budding nonprofit professionals like myself must be aware of the decisions we make for organizations to ensure that we do not continue the same cycles of harm that we are trying to prevent.

Above all else, however, I believe in doing what is right for the sheer sake of it being the right thing to do. To support my fellow people on their journey through life is my calling, and I am thrilled that I get to fulfill my passion in my career!
